SPEECH FROM THE THRONE

In fulfilling one of his most important constitutional roles, His Honour The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, ONS, QC, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, will open the First Session of the 63rd General Assembly of the Nova Scotia legislature on Thursday, 21 September by reading the speech from the throne at 1 p.m. The speech will be televised live and will be available online. Registration is now open for the second event of the Fall 2017 Series of Evenings @ Government House on 3 October 2017 featuring a choral presentation by Les Voix d’Acadie.

The vocal ensemble Les Voix d'Acadie, the French beacon choir in the Halifax Regional Municipality, will begin its 44th season with a concert at Government House. For this occasion, the choir will not deviate from its varied repertoire of songs ranging from pop folk with frequent jazz infiltration and of course its choir-interpretations of the great songs of the Acadian repertoire. Message of Condolence on the Passing of The Honourable Allan J. MacEachen, PC, OC

Mrs. LeBlanc and I were saddened to learn of the death of The Honourable Allan J. MacEachen, PC, OC, former Senator, Deputy Prime Minister of Canada, Minister of the Crown, and long-time Member of Parliament from Cape Breton. A native of Nova Scotia, Mr. MacEachen served his nation and province with great distinction throughout his whole life. He was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University where he later taught economics until he entered federal politics in the 1950s. Ann Shaftel will give an illustrated talk on the stabilization of the King’s and Regimental Colours of the 25th and 85th Battalions, Canadian Expeditionary Force, that are on display at Government House. Ann Shaftel works internationally for cultural, governmental and military sectors, museums, universities, and churches. The three finalists for the 2017 Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts Award have been announced. Now in its 12th year and established by the Honourable Myra Freeman in 2005 (Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia from 2000 to 2006), the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Masterworks Arts Award recognizes the excellence of a particular work of art or design from any media. The Government House Summer Tour Program commences at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, 30 June 2017 and will run until Monday, 28 August 2017. Installation of the Next Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia

The Honorable Arthur J. LeBlanc, ONS, QC will be installed as the 33 rd Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia in a ceremony in the Red Chamber at Province House on Wednesday, 28 June 2017. Due to limited space in the Red Chamber, attendance is by invitation only. The Installation Ceremony will be broadcast live on Eastlink Cable 95 and 630.
