Remembering the men of Canada’s Black Battalion No. 2 Construction Battalion 1916 – 1920

On November 10th at 7pm, Professor Leslie Oliver will provide a fascinating talk on an important aspect of Nova Scotia’s role in the First World War as part of the ongoing commemorations of the Great War at Government House. In 1916, Canada was struggling to maintain a full fighting force in Europe while, at home, many young Black men were struggling to find a way to participate in that effort along with their fellow Canadians. Our Canadian military was trying hard to deal with the racial attitudes of the times in a way that could enlist the willing Black men as part of the war effort...

His Royal Highness, The Prince Edward Earl of Wessex

His Royal Highness, The Prince Edward Earl of Wessex will be undertaking a number of events in Nova Scotia on November 1 st and 2 nd as part of a working visit. Members of the public are invited to the grounds of Government House on Sunday November 1 st to welcome His Royal Highness and watch the arrival ceremony which will commence at 5:30pm. Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines Announced

Three Nova Scotian wines have been selected to receive the Lieutenant Governor's Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines. The award, established by Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant in 2014, recognizes the exceptional quality of locally sourced and produced wines, and honours the dedication and craft of those in Nova Scotia's vibrant wine industry. Summer Tour Season at Government House Kicks Off Canada Day

Their Honours invite the public to enjoy the history and beauty of Government House this summer. Free guided tours of this stunning Georgian mansion in the heart of Halifax will begin on Canada Day, July 1, 2015 10am-4pm. Tours will run throughout July and August on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays 10am-4pm. **Please note there will no public Tours Friday June 3 due to in-house events. Community, Civic Spirit Recognized

Four Nova Scotian communities are being recognized for their civic and community spirit and will be awarded this year's Lieutenant Governor's Community Spirit Award.
