Message from the Lieutenant Governor on Treaty Day 2016

As Her Majesty The Queen’s representative in Nova Scotia, it my pleasure to extend warm greetings on the occasion of Treaty Day 2016. This morning I was honoured to raise the Mi’kmaq Flag at Government House, which is the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians. This flag will fly there for the duration of Mi’kmaq History Month and it symbolizes the special and enduring relationship that exists between the Crown in Nova Scotia and its First Nations peoples. REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR THE FIRST EVENT OF THE FALL 2016 SERIES OF EVENINGS @ GOVERNMENT HOUSE. ON 20 SEPTEMBER 2016, THE HALIFAX MUSIC CO-OP WILL PRESENT AN EVENING OF JAZZ BY THE VESUVIUS BIG BAND.

The Vesuvius Big Band (VBB) has set out to give innovative musicians the room to break new ground and explore different sounds that aren't often found in modern music. VBB is a vehicle for the performers to showcase their new compositions and arrangements that would not otherwise see musical fruition. MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE ON THE PASSING OF THE HON. LORNE O. CLARKE

Mrs. Grant and I were saddened to learn of the death of The Honourable Lorne O. Clarke, OC, ONS, former Chief Justice of Nova Scotia and Chief Justice of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal. A native of Nova Scotia, Chief Justice Clarke had a distinguished career in the legal profession. He was a law professor at Dalhousie University and went on to be a renowned practitioner in labour-management relations as a negotiator, conciliator and arbitrator. The Queen’s 90th Birthday – The Public is Invited to Sign a Book of Congratulations at Government House

Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant and Mrs. Joan Grant extend congratulations to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her 90th Birthday on April 21st, 2016. From April 21 until June 15, 2016 members of the public are invited to sign the congratulatory message book available at Government House, 1451 Barrington St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily including weekends. The book will then be sent to Her Majesty from the people of Nova Scotia.
