MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE ON THE PASSING OF THE HON. LORNE O. CLARKE

Mrs. Grant and I were saddened to learn of the death of The Honourable Lorne O. Clarke, OC, ONS, former Chief Justice of Nova Scotia and Chief Justice of the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal. A native of Nova Scotia, Chief Justice Clarke had a distinguished career in the legal profession. He was a law professor at Dalhousie University and went on to be a renowned practitioner in labour-management relations as a negotiator, conciliator and arbitrator. The Queen’s 90th Birthday – The Public is Invited to Sign a Book of Congratulations at Government House

Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant and Mrs. Joan Grant extend congratulations to Her Majesty The Queen on the occasion of her 90th Birthday on April 21st, 2016. From April 21 until June 15, 2016 members of the public are invited to sign the congratulatory message book available at Government House, 1451 Barrington St., from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily including weekends. The book will then be sent to Her Majesty from the people of Nova Scotia.

2016 Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Excellence in Nova Scotia Wines

The call for submissions for this year’s award was announced today by Government House, Halifax. The award, established by His Honour Brigadier-General The Honourable J.J. Grant, CMM, ONS, CD (Ret’), Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia in 2014, recognizes the outstanding quality of locally sourced and produced wines, and honours the commitment and craft of those in Nova Scotia’s wine industry. Due to several unforeseen circumstances, the original line-up for the Winter 2016 Season of Evenings @ Government House has been adjusted. The changes are as follows: 1. Chief Petty Officer First Class (Ret’d) David Porter will now give his presentation on his participation in the Coronation Fleet Review at Spithead on Tuesday, 19 April 2016. 2. Tartan Day at Government House - Wednesday, April 6th at 11:00 am

Their Honours, Brigadier-General the Honourable J.J. Grant and Mrs Joan Grant extend an invitation to the public to join them at Government House to celebrate Tartan Day on Wednesday, April 6th at 11:00 am. Proclaimed in Nova Scotia in 1987, Tartan Day is recognized across the country as a day to celebrate Canada’s Scottish Heritage. This special event will include a demonstration of Highland dancing, music and more. Refreshments to follow. EVENINGS @ GOVERNMENT HOUSE - 5 APRIL 2016 - PRESENTATION BY THE HALIFAX MUSIC CO-OP

The Halifax Music Co-op's Vesuvius Chamber Choir and Orchestra sends it soloist from its cross-province concert tour of Handel's Messiah along with Music Director John Bogardus and Guest Musician John Overton to Government House to perform solo selections from the Messiah. In addition, movements from Beethoven's monumental Kreutzer Sonata will be performed.
