Registration is now open for the fifth event in the Fall 2016 Series of Evenings @ Government House on 15 November 2016, featuring a presentation on the historic and modern roles of the 78th Highland Regiment of Foot.

Roderick MacLean, Executive Director of the Halifax Citadel Regimental Association, will speak on the historic and modern roles of the 78th Highland Regiment of Foot - the 19th century Halifax garrison and the contemporary re-enactment program. The 78th Highland Regiment of Foot, or 78th Highlanders, has stamped an indelible legacy on the cultural fabric of Nova Scotia. From its initial two-year posting in the mid-Victorian period, to the echoes of its presence in subsequent militia and regular force military units, to its re-enactment at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site of Canada...

Presentation of First Poppy

The Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia was honoured to be presented with the first Poppy of the 2016 Royal Canadian Legion annual Poppy Campaign today at a ceremony at Government House. The presentation was made by Royal Canadian Legion Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command President Steve Wessel.

Registration is now open for the fourth event in the Fall 2016 Series of Evenings @ Government House on 1 November 2016, featuring a Mi’kmaq Storytelling presentation by Ursula Johnson.

Since time immemorial, Mi’kmaq storytellers have shared legends and songs that have encapsulated the imaginations of people young and old. Ursula Johnson will deliver a dynamic theatrical presentation that will bring to life several characters from various Mi’kmaq Legends such as ‘The Star Brides’ on a search for their ultimate husbands, and Kluskap’s journey on the back of a whale on his way to ‘Find Summer’. CEREMONY TO REPATRIATE HISTORIC KING'S AND REGIMENTAL COLOURS - 2:00PM ON SATURDAY, 15 OCTOBER 2016

On Saturday, 15th October 2016, Their Honours will host a ceremony at Government House to officially repatriate the recently stabilized King’s and Regimental Colours of the 25th Battalion Canadian Infantry and 85th Battalion Canadian Infantry, two historic regiments that were raised in Nova Scotia and deployed to the Western Front during the First World War. Serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Veterans wishing to attend should wear their medals. This event is open to the public and no registration is required. Message from the Lieutenant Governor on Treaty Day 2016

The Vesuvius Big Band (VBB) has set out to give innovative musicians the room to break new ground and explore different sounds that aren't often found in modern music. VBB is a vehicle for the performers to showcase their new compositions and arrangements that would not otherwise see musical fruition.
