EVENINGS AT GOVERNMENT HOUSE – FALL 2017 SERIES

The conservation of historic military King’s and Regimental Colours, an Acadian choral performance, Reeny Smith, Nova Scotian tales of the supernatural, Halifax Harbour and the Halifax Explosion, and a symphonic concert commemorating the Halifax Explosion are the topics to be featured in the upcoming Fall 2017 Series of Evenings @ Government House hosted by Their Honours The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia and Mrs. Patsy LeBlanc.

As the Fall 2017 Series is launched, His Honour noted "Mrs. LeBlanc and I are delighted to host our first Evenings at Government House series this fall. Nova Scotia has an amazing depth of history and talent and we look forward to the public joining us for these presentations at Government House, the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians."

Scheduled events in the Fall 2017 Series are:

19 September – Ann Shaftel, Art Conservator, will give an illustrated talk on the stabilization of the King’s and Regimental Colours of the 25th and 85th Battalions, Canadian Expeditionary Force, that are on display at Government House.

3 October -The vocal ensemble Les Voix d’Acadie, the Francophone beacon choir in the Halifax Regional Municipality, will give a concert.

17 October – In conjunction with the Halifax pop Explosion, Reeny Smith will give a concert.

31 October – Renowned folklorist and folksinger Clary Croft presents “Halloween Hauntings – Supernatural Folklore in Nova Scotia”

14 November – Dr. Roger Marsters, Curator of Marine History with the Nova Scotia Museum, will give a talk on the cultural landscapes of Halifax Harbour at the time of the 1917 Explosion.

21 November – Under the direction of conductor/composer Peter Allen, Dalhousie Symphony Orchestra performs a Halifax Explosion Concert.  Please note that this concert will be held at Paul O’Regan Hall, Halifax Central Library, 5440 Spring Garden Road. 

With the exception of the concert on 21 November, all events will be held at Government House, 1451 Barrington St., Halifax.

Registration for each event will open two weeks before, on a first-come first-served basis.
