60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice

On the 60th anniversary of the armistice that ended the Korean War, we remember and honour the 26,000 Canadians who served in Korea and the more than 500 Canadians who lost their lives in this terrible conflict. At a time when many were still recovering from the scars of the Second World War, Canadians selflessly answered the call from the United Nations to take action against North Korean aggression. Their bravery and sacrifice, along with that of soldiers from South Korea and allied countries, secured freedom and democracy in South Korea and ushered in a new era of co-operation and...

Passing of the Honourable Alex Colville, PC, CC, ONS

It is with sadness that Mrs. Grant and I learned of the death of the Honourable Mr. Alex Colville P.C, C.C, O.N.S. Mr. Colville was an artist of extraordinary talent who used his gifts to capture significant moments in history such as Canada’s involvement in the Second World War and also the quiet moments of ordinary life in rural Nova Scotia. As one of the most celebrated artists of our time, Mr. Coleville was one of the first named Officers of the Order of Canada in 1967 and was later elevated to Companion of the Order of Canada in 1982 for a lifetime of outstanding achievement and...
