Meeting of the Mi’kmaq Grand Council at Government House – 2 October 2018

To reinforce the long and deep relationship that exists between the Crown and the Mi’kmaq people, the Mi’kmaq Grand Council convened their meeting at Government House today. Following an opening prayer by a senior Keptin of the Grand Council, His Honour The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, gave remarks of welcome. Registration is now open for the third event of the Fall 2018 Series of Evenings @ Government House on 16 October 2018. In collaboration with the Halifax Pop Explosion, this event features Daniel Walker’s musical project “Owen Meany’s Batting Stance”

Government House is proud to continue its annual collaboration with the Halifax Pop Explosion. This year’s performance features the Halifax based alternative indie rock project of songwriter Daniel Walker titled, Owen Meany’s Batting Stance . Owen Meany’s Batting Stance was released as a self-titled record in September 2016. The record received three 2017 Music Nova Scotia nominations for Solo Recording of the Year, New Artist Recording of the Year, and Alternative Recording of the Year. Message from the Lieutenant Governor on Treaty Day 2018

As The Queen’s representative in Nova Scotia, it my pleasure to extend warm greetings on the occasion of Treaty Day 2018. Ceramics Exhibit at Government House

In collaboration with the Nova Scotia Potters Guild, Government House will host a ceramics exhibition titled Quaff: To Drink Deeply that has been created by some of Nova Scotia’s finest artists. Quaff is a juried exhibition of new work by members of the Nova Scotia Potters Guild. In collaboration with the Nova Scotia Potters Guild, Government House is pleased to host a ceramics exhibition titled QUAFF: To Drink Deeply that has been created by some of Nova Scotia’s finest ceramics artists. QUAFF is a juried exhibition of new work by members of the Guild. The exhibition’s theme has inspired pieces ranging from complete tea sets to birds in a tree waiting to drink. In fulfilling one of his most important constitutional duties, His Honour The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, ONS, QC, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, opened the Second Session of the 63rd General Assembly of the Nova Scotia Legislature on Thursday, 6 September 2018 by reading the Speech From The Throne. Registration is now open for the first event of the Fall 2018 Series of Evenings @ Government House on 18 September 2018, featuring pianist and Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship recipient Alex Yang.

Government House is delighted to partner with the Nova Scotia Talent Trust to showcase Alex Yang. Alex is a nine-year-old Grade 5 student and has been studying piano with Lynn Stodola since 2015. In both 2017 and 2018, Alex was one of the youngest recipients of a Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship. He has achieved top placements in a number of provincial and national music competitions. Alex will perform compositions by Mozart, Bach, Chopin Swinstead, Grieg, Debussy, Beethoven, and Kabalevsky.

2018 Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Award
