Nocturne: Art at Night 2019

Government House is once again pleased to be a featured site as part of Nocturne: Art at Night on Saturday, 19 October 2019 from 6:00pm to Midnight . Nocturne: Art at Night is a completely free annual festival bringing art and energy to the streets of Halifax. You are invited to participate in a new creative experience that showcases and celebrates the arts community in Halifax. Message of Condolence on the Passing of The Honourable John MacLennan Buchanan, PC, QC, ECNS

Mrs. LeBlanc and I were saddened to learn of the passing of The Honourable John MacLennan Buchanan, PC, QC, ECNS, 20 th Premier of the Province of Nova Scotia. Mr. Buchanan served as premier from 1978 to 1990. Mr. Buchanan was born in Sydney, Nova Scotia and attended Sydney Academy. He worked in the Sydney steel mill until he attended Mount Allison University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Certificate in Engineering in 1954. Message from the Lieutenant Governor on Treaty Day 2019

This morning, I was honoured to raise the Mi’kmaq flag at a ceremony at Government House and the Mi’kmaq flag will fly for the full duration of Mi’kmaq History Month. I was pleased to be joined by Grand Chief Norman Sylliboy in raising the flag. This was Grand Chief Sylliboy’s first event at Government House since his selection as the Grand Chief of the Mi’kmaq Grand Council in late July 2019. Registration is now open for the second event of the Fall 2019 Series of Evenings @ Government House on Tuesday, 8 October 2019. Government House is delighted to partner with the Nova Scotia Talent Trust to showcase pianist Devin Huang. Devin is a twelve-year-old Grade 8 student and has been studying piano with Lynn Stodola since 2016. Since Devin was introduced to piano at the age of seven, he has shown great enthusiasm towards piano performance, both solo and chamber. He will perform works from Bach, Beethoven, and Chopin.
