Launch of Fall 2020 Series of Evenings @ Government House

Today we mark the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, which brought victory for the Allies and finally marked the end of the Second World War. Those of us who remember the conclusion of the Far East campaign, whether on active service overseas, or waiting for news at home, will never forget the jubilant scenes and overwhelming sense of relief. Mrs. LeBlanc and I are shocked and greatly saddened to learn of the explosion that occurred in Beirut on 4 August 2020 that has resulted in so many deaths and injuries. This is a serious blow to a nation that was already experiencing difficult times. This terrible event has touched many people of Lebanese descent who are citizens of Nova Scotia. We know that they are worried about the impact of the explosion on their loved ones and fellow countrymen and women, and I have been impressed with the many offers of assistance to Beirut that have emanated from Nova Scotians. Halifax Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

To mark the beginning of Halifax Pride, His Honour The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, raised the Pride Flag at Government House this morning. The Pride Flag will fly at Government House from today until sunset on Sunday, 26 July 2020, which is the last day of Halifax Pride. In 2014, Government House Halifax was the first such building in the Commonwealth to fly the Pride Flag. The theme of the 2020 Halifax Pride Festival is Pride//AMPLIFIED.

Today, 10 June 2020, marks the 99 th birthday of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. The Duke of Edinburgh had a successful career with the Royal Navy and served in the Second World War. Upon the Queen’s accession to the throne in 1952, he turned his focus to supporting the Queen.
