Remembering April 18-19, 2020
Five years have passed since the tragic events of April 18 and 19, 2020, when our province endured unimaginable acts that forever changed the lives of Nova Scotians.
Today, we pause to remember the lives of those taken far too soon. We honour their memory, stand in solidarity with survivors and those who grieve, and extend our deepest sympathies to all who were touched by this senseless tragedy.
In the face of heartbreak, Nova Scotians responded with compassion and courage. Communities supported one another with open hearts. Strangers became neighbours. And in the midst of sorrow, our province found ways to remember, to begin healing, and to carry forward the legacies of those we lost.
As we continue to process these events, we remain Nova Scotia Strong. We support one another and stand beside all those whose lives continue to be impacted.
In the coming days, Nova Scotians are encouraged to observe a moment of silence at noon on April 18 and April 19. Flags at Government House will be lowered to half-mast on both days.
We also recognize that remembering the events of April 2020 affects each of us differently. For those who may be struggling or in need of support, the provincial Mental Health Crisis Line is available 24 hours a day at 1-888-429-8167.
