Victoria Day Message
Thursday, May 18, 2023
His Honour the Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Mrs. Patsy LeBlanc and the entire Household send warm wishes to His Majesty The King on Victoria Day. This holiday originated in 1845 to honour Queen Victoria’s birthday, and has since marked the official birthday of Canada’s sovereign.
The earliest recorded celebrations of Victoria Day, taking place in the mid-1800s, saw residents gathered in Toronto to give cheers to The Queen. Towns also mounted day-long birthday celebrations, including gun salutes at midnight, pre-dawn serenades, picnics, athletic competitions, light displays and torch precessions.
