Evenings @ Government House, Fall 2022 Season
We are happy to announce that Evenings @ Government House will return this fall. There is a new lineup of speakers and performers showcasing the culture, history and heritage of our province.
As always, events are free and open to the public. All sessions take place at Government House (1451 Barrington Street). Please see the event and registration details below.
Evenings @ Government House, Fall 2022
Nocturne Halifax: Nova Voce at Government House and First Floor Tours
- Date: Saturday, October 15th
- Time: 6:00 PM – 10:00 PM
- Description: We are pleased to join the Nocturne Festival and host Nova Voce, Nova Scotia’s Provincial Men’s Choir, for an evening of music in the Ballroom. Government House will also be open for tours of the first floor. View art and artifacts that preserve our provincial history and celebrate the diversity in the province.

George Zwaagstra: A Story of Liberation and Arrival in Canada
- Date: Tuesday, October 18th
- Time: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Dessert reception to follow the presentation.
- Description: Famous for his sense of humor and interesting stories, Mr. Zwaagstra will speak about his experiences sheltering Jewish families and hunger evacuees in the Netherlands during World War II. He also discusses his immigration to Canada through Pier 21, at which time he joined the Royal Canadian Air Force. Mr. Zwaagstra continues to volunteer with the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21 as a tour guide and was awarded Maritimer of the Week by CTV for his work in keeping history alive.

A Celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Playwrights Guild of Canada
- Date: Tuesday, November 1st
- Time: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Dessert reception to follow the presentation.
- Description: Nova Scotia playwrights are well-know and respected across Canada, and there is much to celebrate about our writers. Playwrights Guild of Canada will feature work by Shauntay Grant and Hannah Moscovitch. Both will read from their work and sit on a moderated panel to discuss the art of writing for the theatre and the theatre community in Canada. Questions from the audience are welcome.

An Evening of Music with Aaron C. Lewis
- Date: Tuesday, November 15th
- Time: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Dessert reception to follow the presentation.
- Description: Hailing from Cape Breton, Aaron C. Lewis has been a professional musician since he was 16 years old and has toured all over the world. He has travelled with The Carlton Showband and has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the industry including Joe Diffie, Alabama, Tommy Hunter, The Osmonds, Prairie Oyster, and Charlie Pride. He also co-founded and performed with the popular trio The Three Pianos, who played sold out shows for over a decade.

Stories of Treasure Hunts and Adventures on Oak Island with Tony Sampson
- Date: Tuesday, November 29th
- Time: 7:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Dessert reception to follow the presentation.
- Description: Mr. Sampson is part of the cast and crew of the show The Curse of Oak Island. The show has run over 100 episodes that cover archeological discoveries, the mythology and search for treasure on and around Oak Island.
