Message from the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia Amid the Coronavirus Pandemic

Sunday, March 22, 2020

This is an extraordinary time in our province and I ask all citizens to do their part in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. To that end, I have directed that all events at Government House be cancelled until the health authorities advise when it is safe to resume normal operations.

The health authorities have noted the need to practice measures including social distancing, frequent and thorough hand washing with soap and hot water, using hand sanitizers, coughing and sneezing into your elbow or a single-use tissue, and avoiding social gatherings.  If you are feeling unwell and have the symptoms associated with the COVID-19 virus, I ask that you stay home and isolate yourself from family and loved ones and call 811.

Let me take this opportunity to express my thanks to all people in the public and private sectors who are compelled to continue working to ensure that we are safe, healthy and have access to the basic necessities.  Your service is greatly appreciated and valued.

At this point in time, the outlook may seem uncertain, however, I know we will emerge unified and stronger from the present situation if we all do our part in response to this virus.

The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, ONS, QC
Lieutenant Governor
