Government House Halifax Announcement Regarding the COVID-19 Pandemic

Friday, March 13, 2020

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia is closely monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic situation and is working with Nova Scotia’s Public Health Authority regarding the spread of the COVID-19 virus and will follow the decisions and recommendations made by the Government of Nova Scotia.

In response to the developing COVID-19 situation and following the direction of the Premier and Chief Medical Officer to implement social distancing and minimize public gatherings, it has been decided to postpone all events at Government House for the next 30 days.

At this time, the Lieutenant Governor and Mrs. LeBlanc will not be attending external events.  It is understood that this may be a disappointment to host organizations; however, public safety is paramount.  Government House Staff will contact the host organizations to potentially re-schedule any events to which Their Honours were invited.

Notwithstanding the above postponements, His Honour is still able to execute his constitutional duties and there are business continuity plans to deal with these developments.

The Office of the Lieutenant Governor will examine the situation on a daily basis to determine if it is necessary to extend the 30-day window.  Updates will be provided.
