Message of Condolence on the Passing of Her Honour the Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, ONB
Patsy and I were very saddened to learn of the death of Her Honour The Honourable Jocelyne Roy Vienneau, ONB, who was serving as the 31st Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick.
Lieutenant Governor Roy Vienneau will be remembered for her distinguished career that focused on economic development and the promotion and advancement of education, research, and innovation. She was also a major advocate for community engagement. An industrial engineer by training, she was one of the first women to graduate from the Faculty of Engineering at l’Université de Moncton.
Mme. Roy Vienneau spent much of her career in the field of education and held numerous leadership positions with the Government of New Brunswick and at the New Brunswick Community College. Mme. Roy Vienneau was the first woman to occupy a secular position as Vice-President of a campus at l’Université de Moncton and was the first woman to direct a francophone community college in New Brunswick. Most notably, she was the Principal of NBCC in Bathurst in the six years prior to her appointment as the Queen’s representative in New Brunswick on 23 October 2014.
Lieutenant Governor Roy Vinneau will be remembered for her cheerful spirit, energy, grace and tireless support to the Province of New Brunswick and its people.
Patsy and I extend our most sincere condolences to the people of New Brunswick and to Mme. Roy Vienneau’s husband Ronald and their two children and grandchildren.
The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, ONS, QC
