Registration is now open for the fourth event of the Fall 2018 Series of Evenings @ Government House on 30 October 2018, featuring a talk by Major (Ret'd) Ken Hynes, Chief Curator at The Army Museum Halifax Citadel

Monday, October 15, 2018

As part of the Government House program to commemorate the centenary of the end of the Great War, Major (Retired) Ken Hynes, Chief Curator at The Army Museum Halifax Citadel will give an illustrated talk on The Last Steps Memorial Arch that was unveiled on the Halifax Waterfront in 2016 and dedicated to the lives of over 300,000 Canadians who left this port city for overseas service during the First World War. In November 2017, a companion memorial, Canada Gate, was dedicated at Passchendaele, to those who took their last steps in life or whose lives were forever changed by their wartime experiences.  The scale of sacrifice given by Canadian soldiers on Belgian soil, particularly in and around the Ypres Salient, forged an unbreakable bond between the people of Flanders and the people of Canada.
