2018 Lieutenant Governor's Community Spirit Award

Friday, April 13, 2018

Nova Scotians are being asked to show their pride in their communities by submitting a nomination for the 2018 Lieutenant Governor’s Community Spirit Award.

The call for submissions for this year's award was announced today, April 13. The award, established by then Lieutenant Governor The Honourable Mayann Francis in 2007, celebrates the power, strength and diversity of communities across Nova Scotia.

The award is administered by the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage and up to four communities are honoured each year. Recipients are chosen by a selection committee based on community applications that best fit the award’s criteria. Communities that are selected for the award promote citizen engagement, civic pride and have a positive outlook on the future.

The lieutenant governor will visit the winning communities to participate in the celebrations and present a hand-crafted crystal award.

"Nova Scotia is characterized by communities that are comprised of like-minded individuals and organizations that strive to make this province a wonderful place in which to live,” said His Honour The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia.  “During my first year as Lieutenant Governor, I have been greatly impressed by the tremendous civic pride I have witnessed during my visits around Nova Scotia.”

Last year’s winning communities were:

- Big Tancook Island, Lunenburg Co.
- West Pubnico, Yarmouth Co.

The deadline to submit applications is Thursday, May 31, 2018. Applications can be found online at: https://cch.novascotia.ca/investing-in-our-future/community-spirit-award
