Evenings @ Government House – Winter 2018 Series

Their Honours The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, and Mrs. Patsy LeBlanc are pleased to announce the Winter 2018 Series of Evenings @ Government House.

Three themes and anniversaries will be commemorated through this new series of public events. They are African Heritage Month, the Centenary of the end of the First World War, and the Centenary of Women attaining the right to vote in Nova Scotia.

"Following the success of the Fall 2017 Series, Mrs. LeBlanc and I are delighted to continue hosting Evenings @ Government House," said Lieutenant Governor LeBlanc. "These events provide a wonderful opportunity for our citizens to learn about Nova Scotia’s rich history, heritage and culture in the setting of Government House, the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians."

Scheduled events in the Winter 2018 Series are:

Tuesday, 13 February – To mark African Heritage Month 2018, Vanessa Fells of the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre will present of the Black Loyalists of Nova Scotia.

Tuesday, 27 February – Dr. Sally Ross will present on the history of Acadian schools in Nova Scotia from 1758 to 2018: Challenges and Victories.

Tuesday, 13 March – Professional musicians Patricia Creighton and Peter Allen will give a Flute and Piano Recital.

Tuesday, 27 March – To commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War, Dr. Brian Tennyson will present on Nova Scotia’s Experience of the First World War.

Tuesday, 10 April – To celebrate Tartan Day, the Amethyst Scottish Dancers of Nova Scotia will perform both traditional and modern highland and step dances.

Tuesday, 24 April – To commemorate the centenary of many women attaining the right to vote in Nova Scotia, Dr. Heidi MacDonald will present on this important stage in the suffrage movement.

Registration for each event will open two weeks before, on a first-come first-served basis.

All events are held at Government House, 1451 Barrington Street, Halifax.
