Public Invited to Celebrate Civic, Cultural Excellence at Government House

Musicians, filmmakers and community leaders are among those featured in new season of public events for the popular Evenings at Government House series.

Lt.-Gov. J.J. Grant will host the series from Jan. 21 to April 29.

"Nova Scotia is brimming with people who enrich the civic and cultural life of our province in so many ways," said Lt.-Gov. Grant. "The Evenings at Government House series is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our citizens and to showcase their exceptional talents."

The public events are free and will be held at Government House, 1451 Barrington St., Halifax. People can register by e-mailing lgoffice@gov.ns.ca or calling 902-424-7001.

Scheduled events are:

-- theatrical performance and public discussion with Sir John Eh? The Roadshow, Tuesday, Jan. 21, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

-- panel discussion with youth community leaders in celebration of African Heritage Month, Tuesday, Feb. 4, 7-8:30 p.m.

-- film screening of Pirates and Privateers, with producer Edward Peill from Tell Tale Productions Inc. and writer and director Geoff D'eon, Tuesday Feb. 18, 7-8:30 p.m.

-- musical theatre showcase by Neptune Theatre pre-professional program, Tuesday March 4, 7-8:30 p.m.

-- performance by singer/songwriter Dave Gunning Tuesday, March 18, 7-8:30 p.m.

-- lecture by Jane Austen Society of North America (Nova Scotia), Reliving the Regency Ball-The Enduring Fascination with Jane Austen and her World, Tuesday April 1, 7-8:30 p.m.

-- historical fashion show by Costume Studies, Dalhousie University, Louisbourg - the Early Years, 1713-1745, Tuesday, April 15, 7-8:30 p.m.

-- floral design demonstration by Neville MacKay, Tuesday, April 29, 7-8:30 p.m.
