We are happy to announce the Winter 2023 Season of Evenings @ Government House! Join us every second Tuesday for free events that celebrate the culture, history and heritage of our province.

All sessions begin at 7:00 PM and are followed by a dessert reception. 

Government House is located in downtown Halifax at 1451 Barrington Street. Parking is available on Barrington Street and in the surrounding area. The House is fully accessible.

Designing The Viola Desmond Experience: An Evening with Lead Artist Charlie Marven

Charlie Marven is a creator and entrepreneur from Halifax. He's been working in the digital marketing and advertising sector as a programmer and designer for over 15 years. He is the founder of Marvelous Design and the Make a Dream Endure Organization (MaDE). A highly driven, multi-talented artist, designer and web developer with a passion for creating fun and unique experiences.

Mr. Marven will share behind the scenes footage taken while designing and building The Viola Desmond Experience. He will also demonstrate how he created the concept for the art installation and share stories about its personal meaning.

Celebrating Nova Scotia's Natural Environment through Astrophotography: An Evening with Photographer Kristine Richer

Join Ms. Richer as she discusses her passion for the cosmos and how her work brings the beauty of the night skies into our homes. Ms. Richer has received recognition from NASA for her work, and her photographs have been shown and printed around the world. She is the founder and owner of Kristine Rose Photography.

An Evening of Music with the Voices of THR!VE, Nova Scotia's Show Choir for Girls

The goal of the choir is to empower young people to come fully alive in their potential. Members range in age from 8 - 16 and will perform a songs representing a variety of genres.

Excavating Acadian Artifacts in Nova Scotia: An Evening with Archaeologist Dr. Jonathan Fowler

For the past 30 years, Dr. Fowler has researched and excavated early colonial Acadie. Join him for a lively discussion about fieldwork, digs, and discoveries that showcase the history of the Acadian people. Dr. Fowler currently works with the Anthropology Department at Saint Mary's University.

Celebrating Mi'kmaq Culture through Visual Art: An Evening with Artist Alan Syliboy

Join the acclaimed artist Alan Syliboy for a discussion about his artistic vision and process as a creator. He will also touch on the ways visual art can promote and preserve the traditions of the Mi'kmaw people. Mr. Syliboy's work has been featured at shows and art demonstrations around the world, including France, Germany, and Japan.
