His Honour the Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Mrs. LeBlanc, and the Household at Government House send heartfelt congratulations to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II as she celebrates 70 years on the throne.  

Today, we mark the beginning of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Year, an unprecedented historic event, and pause to reflect upon Her Majesty’s steadfast service to Canadians and all people throughout the Commonwealth.

In 1952, Queen Elizabeth II ascended the throne, and her extraordinary reign has been characterized by a sense of duty and devotion to a life of service. Public and voluntary work has been a top priority and she has served as a Royal Patron or President to over 600 charities. She has also remained an important figure throughout the Commonwealth during times of enormous social change.

As Her Majesty’s reign embodies the importance of commitment to one’s community and country, the Platinum Jubilee provides opportunities for Nova Scotians to honour those in our province who have demonstrated an unwavering dedication to family, neighbours, and colleagues, particularly throughout the pandemic.

Over the coming year, we look to The Queen’s example and commit ourselves afresh to service. Through compassion, perseverance and dedication to our relationships and chosen work, we continue to build a province where all can live with dignity and peace.

This morning, a Flag Raising Ceremony was held at Government House in Her Majesty’s honour. After raising the Queen’s Personal Canadian Flag, the Lieutenant Governor delivered remarks to commemorate this historic occasion.

Due to COVID-19 protocol, Government House was not able to invite members of the public to attend the ceremony. We are pleased to provide a video of the event so that all Nova Scotians can join the celebration.
