Message of Condolence on the Passing of His Honour the Honourable W. Thomas Molloy OC, SOM, QC
Patsy and I were very saddened to learn of the death of His Honour The Honourable W. Thomas Molloy, OC, SOM, QC, who was serving as the 22nd Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan.
A respected lawyer, Lieutenant Governor Molloy will be remembered for his work in treaty-making and reconciliation with the Indigenous people of Canada. Most noteworthy was his groundbreaking work in treaty settlements that have changed the face of Canada. In particularly he was instrumental as the Government of Canada Chief Negotiator for the Nunavut Land Claim Agreement and for the Nisga'a Final Agreement.
Mr. Molloy was only installed as Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan on 21 March 2018 and Patsy and I had the pleasure of meeting him at the 2018 Governor General, Lieutenant Governors and Territorial Commissioners Conference in Fredericton in June 2018. We recall him to be a gentleman of great humility with a wonderful sense of humour. He will be remembered for his service to Canada and Saskatchewan, and for his extensive community work.
Patsy and I extend our sincere condolences to the people of Saskatchewan and to Mr. Molloy’s four daughters and his 11 grandchildren.
The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, ONS, QC
Lieutenant Governor
