Government House is proud to continue its annual collaboration with the Halifax Pop Explosion.  This year’s performance features the Halifax based alternative indie rock project of songwriter Daniel Walker titled, Owen Meany’s Batting Stance.

Owen Meany’s Batting Stance was released as a self-titled record in September 2016.  The record received three 2017 Music Nova Scotia nominations for Solo Recording of the Year, New Artist Recording of the Year, and Alternative Recording of the Year.  In 2018, the record was also nominated for an East Coast Music Award for Rising Star Recording of the Year. A sophomore recording, Feather Weights, will be released in Spring 2019.

Daniel’s performances are engaging, electrically charged acoustic guitar presentations that are teeming with emotive energy.  As Owen Meany’s Batting Stance, each performance is a contract to burst the bubble between the audience and the performer through relatable, punchy songs.   His songs are lyrically oriented that cradle the narrative with conventional chords and unconventional structure.

The Halifax Pop Explosion (HPX) is an annual festival that presents over 100 artists, comedians and speakers in more than 10 venues across the city to over 20,000 fans and industry delegates from around the world. HPX has a long-standing tradition of presenting the best in new and innovative music from across Canada and the world. HPX bolsters the music presentation with a Music Conference, comedy shows, a Zine Fair as well as other partnered events and parties. Halifax Pop Explosion continues to reach a diverse audience and provides considerable exposure for new and innovative talent in genres from hip hop to punk, from folk to indie rock.
