Message from the Lieutenant Governor on Treaty Day 2016

Monday, October 3, 2016

As Her Majesty The Queen’s representative in Nova Scotia, it my pleasure to extend warm greetings on the occasion of Treaty Day 2016.

This morning I was honoured to raise the Mi’kmaq Flag at Government House, which is the ceremonial home of all Nova Scotians. This flag will fly there for the duration of Mi’kmaq History Month and it symbolizes the special and enduring relationship that exists between the Crown in Nova Scotia and its First Nations peoples. In Nova Scotia we are blessed to have the rich Mi’kmaq heritage and culture form an integral part of the province’s fabric. All citizens can take great pride in this wonderful culture and I encourage them to celebrate.

On behalf of Her Majesty The Queen, I wish you a wonderful Treaty Day and Mi’kmaq History Month.

Brigadier-General The Hon. J.J. Grant, CMM, ONS, CD (Ret’d)
