Message of Condolence on the Passing of The Hon. Constance R. Glube

Monday, February 15, 2016

Mrs. Grant and I were saddened to learn of the death of The Honourable Constance R. Glube, OC, ONS, former Chief Justice of Nova Scotia and Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal of Nova Scotia.

As the first woman Chief Justice in Canada, Chief Justice Glube was a role-model not only for women lawyers, but for all those in the practice of law. She served as a mentor to many and was greatly admired by all those who had the opportunity to work with her and to meet her. From an early age she made a life-long commitment to equal opportunity and to serving her profession with honour.

In honour of her outstanding contributions to Nova Scotia and Canada, Constance Glube was appointed to the Order of Nova Scotia in 2005 and the Order of Canada in 2006. In 2009, the Nova Scotia branch of the Canadian Bar Association established the Constance R. Glube CBA Spirit Award.

All Nova Scotians can take pride in the achievement and pioneering spirit that Chief Justice Glube demonstrated throughout her life. Our province was made a better place through her service to its citizens and jurisprudence in Canada.

Mrs. Grant and I extend our sincere condolences to Constance Glube’s family and friends on their loss.

Brigadier-General The Hon. J.J. Grant, CMM, ONS, CD (Ret’d)
Lieutenant Governor
