Message of Condolence on the Passing of Buddy MacMaster

Thursday, August 21, 2014

Mrs. Grant and I were saddened to learn of the passing of world-renowned Cape Breton fiddler Mr. Hugh Allan (Buddy) MacMaster, C.M., O.N.S.

Musician, mentor and active member of his community, Buddy MacMaster inspired audiences with his extraordinary talent and generous spirit. His genuine love for the music and tutelage of generations of fiddle players has ensured that the unique sound and rhythm of Cape Breton fiddling will be heard in concert halls and community dances across the world for many years to come.

In honour of his outstanding contributions to Nova Scotia and Canada, Buddy MacMaster was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2000 and the Order of Nova Scotia in 2003.

Mrs. Grant and I extend our sincere condolences to Buddy MacMaster’s family and friends and to the community of Judique, Cape Breton on their loss.
