Bill Conall has a lot of lines on his list of Has Beens: musician, songwriter, salesman, library technician, story-teller, long-haul trucker, author and occasional poet. He has lived for several years each in Ontario, Saskatchewan, British Columbia and now Cape Breton. His first book, The Rock in the Water, was shortlisted for the Stephen Leacock Memorial Medal for Humour in 2010. His latest book, The Promised Land - a novel of Cape Breton - also made the shortlist in 2014 and this time, won the gold.   Like the hippies who populate the beginning of The Promised Land, he and Rosemary have chosen to live in St. Ann’s Bay on the back side of Murray Mountain.
