Evenings @ Government House: February Events

The Lieutenant Governor and Ms. Savage are pleased to announce the February 2025 sessions of Evenings @ Government House! Join Their Honours for a series of free public events celebrating the culture and heritage of Nova Scotia.

The events take place at Government House (1451 Barrington Street). Doors open at 6:30 PM, with performances beginning at 7:00 PM. Each session concludes with a dessert reception.

Registration is now open. To reserve a seat, please register with the Office of the Lieutenant Governor.

An Evening with Bruce Patterson, Deputy Chief Herald of Canada

To mark the 60th anniversary of the National Flag of Canada, Bruce Patterson will discuss its history and significance. Mr. Patterson has served as Deputy Chief Herald of Canada since 2010 and has worked with the Canadian Heraldic Authority since 2000. As a herald, he is responsible for designing new heraldic symbols, overseeing the grant process, and providing expertise to the public and government.

An Evening of Poetry with Dr. Afua Cooper

For over 25 years, Dr. Afua Cooper has been a leading scholar, poet, and historian, dedicated to researching, teaching, and celebrating Black Canadian life. A pioneer in Black Canadian Studies, she has played a vital role in advancing the field across multiple disciplines. As an author, former Halifax Poet Laureate, and community leader, she continues to enrich Nova Scotia’s literary and cultural landscape.
