Tuesday, December 17, 2024

Last Friday, Nova Scotia marked a historic occasion with the installation of His Honour the Honourable Mike Savage as the 34th Lieutenant Governor of the Province. In this role, His Honour serves as His Majesty The King’s representative in Nova Scotia.

The ceremony, held in the Red Chamber of Province House, celebrated the Province’s enduring relationship with the Crown, along with its rich historical and cultural traditions.

The event began with a traditional smudging ceremony led by Elder Eisan. Dr. McCreery, Private Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor, read the Royal Commission appointing His Honour to the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. Chief Justice Wood administered the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Office, signed by the Lieutenant Governor, Premier Tim Houston, and the Chief Justice.

His Honour was presented with the Chancellor’s Chain of the Order of Nova Scotia and the Great Seal of the Province, which was later entrusted to the Honourable Becky Druhan, Attorney General and Minister of Justice. The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc also presented the Royal Key, originally given to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II during the 2010 Royal Tour.

Music for the ceremony was provided by Charlie A’Court and the Stadacona Band of the Royal Canadian Navy, adding a celebratory and dignified atmosphere to the occasion. Remarks were delivered by Premier Tim Houston on behalf of the Province of Nova Scotia, and the Honourable Sean Fraser, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure, and Communities, on behalf of the Government of Canada.
