National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

Friday, September 27, 2024

On September 30th, we pause for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to remember the children who never returned home, the survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities. Public commemoration of this tragic and painful history, as well as the ongoing impacts of residential schools, is a vital part of the reconciliation process.

This important day offers an opportunity to recognize and reflect on the legacy of residential schools. In doing so, Canadians also take time for quiet contemplation.

We encourage all Nova Scotians to wear orange in honour of the thousands of residential school survivors.
