Launch of Winter 2021 Series of Evenings @ Government House

Their Honours The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, and Mrs. Patsy LeBlanc are pleased to announce the Winter 2021 Series of Evenings @ Government House.  In addition to celebrating the amazing artistic talent in Nova Scotia, the following themes/anniversaries are marked in this series:

  • African Heritage Month 2021
  • 40th Anniversary of the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens

“Patsy and I are delighted to welcome people to the eighth series of Evenings @ Government House that we have hosted since my installation as Lieutenant Governor," said Lieutenant Governor LeBlanc. "We are pleased that there is such a great interest in Nova Scotia’s artistic talent and this province’s shared history, heritage and culture.” 

The series includes a vocal performance to mark African Heritage Month, a piano and violin concert, a presentation that highlights Nova Scotia theatre practitioners and a presentation on the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens.

All events take place at Government House, 1451 Barrington St., Halifax, and will adhere to the public health orders and directives related to COVID-19. Guests will be required to wear masks while inside Government House and social distance. 

Subject to health and safety restrictions, the event schedule is:

  • Tuesday, 23 February 2021 – To celebrate African Heritage Month and in collaboration with the Halifax Public Libraries, Suzy Hansen will perform an evening of gospel and spiritual music.
  • Tuesday, 3 March 2021 – Award-winning Theatre Nova Scotia directors will talk about how they study scripts, characters, and storylines to create their vision for a stage production.
  • Tuesday, 23 March 2021 – In collaboration with Symphony Nova Scotia, Government House presents Symphony Nova Scotia Concertmaster Renaud Lapierre and pianist Simon Docking, who will perform a variety of rich, elegant works for piano and violin in an intimate live recital.
  • Tuesday, 6 April 2021 – To mark the 76th anniversary of the liberation of the Netherlands, George Zwaagstra will discuss his experience as a 10-year-old messenger boy for the Dutch resistance in the Nazi-occupied Netherlands (Rescheduled from 2020).
  • Tuesday, 20 April 2021 – Marking its 40th anniversary in August 2021, members from the Annapolis Royal Historic Gardens will present on this premier tourist attraction.
  • Tuesday, 27 April 2021 – Professor Marc Milner returns to present on the D-Day campaign and the role that Canadians played in the operation that turned the tide of the Second World War. 

All events take place from 7 to 8 p.m.  These events are free and, as seating is limited to 25, people must register online at www.lt.gov.ns.ca  or by calling 902-424-7001. 

Registration will open two weeks before each presentation and close on the Thursday preceding the presentation. Up to 25 names will be randomly drawn and those selected will be notified by the preceding Friday. Guests may reserve a maximum of two seats per registration. Names drawn with an accompanying guest will be allocated two seats.
