Message of Condolence on the Passing of Mi’kmaq Grand Council Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy
Mrs. LeBlanc and I were saddened to learn of the death of Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy on Thursday, 30 November 2017.
Grand Chief Sylliboy’s leadership of the Mi’kmaq nation over the past 25 years was instrumental in ensuring that Aboriginal and Treaty rights were implemented and gained greater recognition. He will be remembered for his tireless efforts to promote the spirituality and culture of the Mi’kmaq.
On behalf of Her Majesty The Queen and all Nova Scotians, Mrs. LeBlanc and I extend our sincere condolences to Grand Chief Sylliboy's wife Marie, and his daughters Michelle and Christina on the loss of their beloved husband and father. We join the whole Mi'kmaq nation in mourning their respected leader.
