As representative of The King in Nova Scotia, the ceremonial role of the Lieutenant Governor is paramount to strengthening Canadian ideals and traditions.

The Lieutenant Governor hosts many functions at Government House, but also receives requests to be present at many functions throughout Nova Scotia. They include dinners, cultural events, military and civilian ceremonies, educational and arts events, and visiting schools and military establishments.

The Lieutenant Governor is also frequently invited to preside over investitures and awards ceremonies that recognize the bravery, achievements, and outstanding public service of Nova Scotians. Some examples include:

• the Order of Nova Scotia investiture
• the Order of St. John investiture
• the Duke of Edinburgh Awards
• the Sovereign's Medal for Volunteers
• service award presentations for members of the military and first responders
• education medals and scholarships
• and a range of community volunteer recognition events. 

The Lieutenant Governor also serves as Honourary Patron of numerous awards programs and organizations that serve Nova Scotians.
