Message of Condolence on the Passing of The Honourable Alan Rockwell Abraham, CM, ONS, CD, DCL, DEng

Mrs. LeBlanc and I were saddened to learn of the passing of the Honourable Alan R. Abraham, CM, ONS, CD, 27 th Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia. Mr. Abraham served as Lieutenant Governor from 1984 to 1989. At the time of his appointment, he was the second youngest Lieutenant Governor in Nova Scotia’s history. An engineer by training, Mr. Abraham dedicated his entire life to serving his province and its citizens. Message from the Lieutenant Governor on Treaty Day 2020

Today, I was honoured to raise the Flag of the Mi’kmaq Grand Council during a ceremony at Government House. This flag will fly for the entire month of October in honour of Mi’kmaq History Month. Although the normal events held on Treaty Day have been limited due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, I am pleased to learn that this important day will be marked in a virtual manner. Registration is now open for the second event of the Fall 2020 Series of Evenings @ Government House on 6 October 2020. Former Nova Scotia Talent Trust scholarship recipients, cellist India Gailey and harpist Ellen Gibling, will perform a recital. Government House will follow the prevailing health and safety regulations as they pertain to the COVID-19 pandemic. Guests will be required to wear masks while inside Government House. Mrs. LeBlanc and I are shocked and greatly saddened to learn of the explosion that occurred in Beirut on 4 August 2020 that has resulted in so many deaths and injuries. This is a serious blow to a nation that was already experiencing difficult times. This terrible event has touched many people of Lebanese descent who are citizens of Nova Scotia. Halifax Pride Flag Raising Ceremony

To mark the beginning of Halifax Pride, His Honour The Honourable Arthur J. LeBlanc, Lieutenant Governor of Nova Scotia, raised the Pride Flag at Government House this morning. The Pride Flag will fly at Government House from today until sunset on Sunday, 26 July 2020, which is the last day of Halifax Pride. In 2014, Government House Halifax was the first such building in the Commonwealth to fly the Pride Flag. The theme of the 2020 Halifax Pride Festival is Pride//AMPLIFIED.
