Synopsis
- Visited five other Canadian provinces as Lieutenant Governor.
- In May 2007, had official audience with the Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace in London.
- Her Honour met six official foreign delegations - Ambassadors and/or Consul Generals - from Belgium, China, India, Japan, Netherlands and Switzerland.
- In her first 12 months in office, Her Honour visited 46 different Nova Scotia communities, not including communities within urban Halifax Regional Municipality. Several communities, such as Bridgewater, Truro and Sydney, had multiple visits. The Lieutenant Governor met thousands of Nova Scotians, from children to seniors.- In total, the Lieutenant Governor attended approximately 302 events this past year and hosted another 61.
- Her Honour delivered remarks or greetings in five different languages: English, French, Mi'kmaq, Arabic and Greek.
- The Lieutenant Governor delivered numerous keynote addresses in the past year including the launch of Black History Month in Ontario, International Women's Day at Cape Breton University and the Dr. Abdul Lodhi Memorial Lecture for the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination at St. Thomas University in Fredericton.
- The office launched a new Lieutenant Governor's award, the Intergenerational Award, in partnership with the provincial Seniors Secretariat and the Youth Secretariat. The award, which has three categories, recognizes individuals or groups who help connect the generations in Nova Scotia.
- A second new award, the Lieutenant Governor's Community Spirit Award, was created in conjunction with the Metro United Way and two private sectors partners to honour communities that work for their residents . The award was officially launched at the end of September 2007. Each year it will recognize as many as four communities in the province.
