Renovations at Government House

As with any home, the wear and tear of the years means renovations and repairs are sometimes needed. Government House is no exception, especially given this House is more than 200 years old. This architectural gem must be maintained and preserved in order to allow future generations to enjoy its beauty and rich history.

In the fall of 2006, experts from the provincial Department of Transportation and Public Works conducted a detailed examination of the House, pinpointing where crucial work needed to be done.

They have prepared a two-year renovation plan intended to ensure Government House remains an integral part of our Nova Scotia history.

Work completed so far:
1) All furniture, artworks and fixtures have been removed from the House and safely stored.
2) Exterior waterproofing and drainage completed
3) Demolition of existing basement floor
