The Award was accepted on his behalf by his wife Kathleen Gorman. Her Honour thanked Mr. Severance for contributing so much of his talent, effort and leadership to preserve the rivers, lakes and streams which make up the salmon habitat of our province.

Lieutenant Governor Mayann E. Francis attended the annual Christmas Reception hosted by the Speaker of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly, the Honourable Alfred MacLeod.

Her Honour participated in a Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and Reception at the Boys & Girls Club of Dartmouth. The tree is an annual gift to Government House from the Lunenburg County Christmas Tree Growers Association and was donated to the Club by the Lieutenant Governor. She praised the Club for its important work in the community.

Her Honour attended the Halifax Explosion Service of Remembrance at Mont-Blanc Cannon in Dartmouth, where she laid a wreath on behalf of Nova Scotians. The explosion is an important part of our city’s history and must not be forgotten, Her Honour said.


Lieutenant Governor Francis hosted a Reception in recognition of Red Cross Valued Donors, held in the Garrison Room at the Halifax Citadel National Historic Site. She thanked Nova Scotians who have made it possible for the Red Cross to continue to do its important work in our province and around the world.

Her Honour attended a viewing of an art exhibit displayed at Whitney Pier Memorial Junior High School, as part of PierScape Festival, an annual celebration of the arts hosted by the Whitney Pier Society for the Arts.

Her Honour met with 18 young adults from across Canada and Ghana who were in Cape Breton as part of the Canada World Youth international exchange program focusing on volunteer work and community development in cross-cultural settings. The members from Ghana gave a musical performance with drums.
